The founders of BEAM are visionary professionals committed to enhancing the well-being and academic success of students. With a deep understanding of psychology, education, and child development, they bring a wealth of expertise to the field. 

Joseph Rubio, Ed.S, LEP

Joseph has a unique background that brings a range of expertise to his practice of educational psychology. He was a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff for over 7 years before embarking on a career as a school psychologist. In 2011, Joseph earned a Master’s of Arts in Educational Psychology, and an Education Specialists degree in School Psychology from Chapman University. He also holds a California license to practice as a Licensed Educational Psychologist since 2014. His assignments as a school psychologist included working with youth in the LA County Juvenile Halls, and various K-12 public school districts. As a school psychologist, Joseph was instrumental in creating a district-level crisis response team, and promoting a standard model for suicide risk assessment and school threat assessment.

In 2017, Joseph was recognized for his work as a school psychologist by the California Association of School Psychologists (CASP). During the 2017 annual conference, CASP presented him with the Nadine M. Lambert Outstanding School Psychologist of the Year Award -Region 5. Joseph also has experience as a Program Administrator of Mental Health for a medium-sized school district in LA County, where he managed a robust mental health program made up of school-based therapists, behavior specialists, and community-based mental health agency contract clinicians. In addition to his work in the public school system, Joseph has presented information and current research on a wide variety of topics to local and national audiences. His expertise in school-based mental health is a valuable resource when working with families who have children experiencing social-emotional challenges.

Joseph’s experience as a school psychologist and public school administrator has informed his professional journey as a Licensed Educational Psychologist. His work with BEAM, LLC offers him the ability to reach a wide range of children, families, and adult learners across the region.

Nancy Aliff, Ed.S., M.A., LEP

Nancy began her career as a School Psychologist in 2011 and has been in private practice as a Licensed Educational Psychologist since 2014. As a practicing School Psychologist, she has worked with thousands of students in various grade levels and settings, including preschool, elementary, intermediate, high school, and young adults in both public and private school settings. In 2021 she became an Adjunct Professor at Chapman University where she co-teaches classes within the School Psychology department.

 

Her experiences and language skills (speaking English, Vietnamese, and Chinese) have given her the opportunity to provide services to a diverse population of students with a variety of disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disability, Developmental Delays, Multiple Disabilities, and students with Mental Disorders (i.e. Anxiety and Depression). Nancy started her career as a volunteer with the Child Life Specialist department at Long Beach Miller Children's Hospital to help children and families cope with the challenges of hospitalization, illness, and disability. ​Prior to becoming a School Psychologist, she was an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapist and provided services to children with Autism. She was also a Cognitive Trainer who helped children enhance their cognitive abilities through one-on-one training.​

As a Licensed Educational Psychologist, she has conducted a range of comprehensive psycho-educational assessments, functional behavior assessments, and suicidal/threat assessments. In addition, she also has vast experience developing and implementing academic and behavior interventions, creating Individualized Education Programs (IEP) in collaboration with school teams, and Section 504 plans for students with special needs or physical limitations. Nancy's dynamic career in the field of education offers a range of expertise to offer all families.
